Sen. Cruz: Biden’s Nominees Have a Disturbing Pattern of Being Apologists for the Chinese Communist Party

Appears on ‘Fox News Primetime’ and ‘The Mark Levin Show’ to discuss the Biden administration’s job-killing agenda and catastrophic embrace of China

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, this week appeared on ‘Fox News Primetime' with Maria Bartiromo and ‘The Mark Levin Show' to discuss President Biden's job-killing executive actions and his administration's catastrophic rush to embrace China. Key excerpts are below.

On Team Biden's rush to embrace the Chinese Communist Party, Sen. Cruz said:

"There is a hopeless naivete among the Biden administration. One of the really disturbing patterns that we've seen come out in this past week, with Biden nominee after Biden nominee, is a warm embrace of China. You want to talk about one of the most dramatic shifts the next four years are going to entail is the Biden administration crawling into bed with China. [...] You look at the nominees Joe Biden is putting forward - they have a disturbing pattern of being apologists for the Chinese Communist Party.[...] These are the people they're putting forward - people who, as a policy matter, believe that America should embrace warmly communist China." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Fox News Primetime', 1/27/21)

On the need to confront the threat China poses to the United States, Sen. Cruz said:

"China poses the single greatest geopolitical threat to the United States over the next century and we need serious, clear-eyed, focused policymakers. Today, when I was questioning Biden's nominee to be U.N. ambassador, I asked her a simple question whether China had committed a genocide, as the U.S. State Department determined, targeted at the Uighurs - one million people in concentration camps. She refused even to answer that straightforward question. I don't know where the decision has been made, if it's Joe Biden directly or simply everyone who surrounds him, but there is now a growing pattern of refusing to confront and apologizing for the oppression, the malign activities and the anti-American influence of the Chinese Communist Party." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Fox News Primetime', 1/27/21)

On Democrats' major donors' connections to China, Sen. Cruz said:

"What is striking is the breadth of it. Every policy being implemented - insofar as it concerns China - is lessening the scrutiny, lessening the sanctions, lessening the pressure, and is embracing communist China. We're just a week into this, I mean, if they're talking about lifting the restrictions on Huawei one week into it - where do you think this is six months from now or a year from now? [...] One of the reasons for this - the big funders of the Democratic Party, Big Tech, Hollywood, Wall Street - they're all in bed with China. They all make money from China and so Big Tech has deep, deep interests in promoting the Chinese communist government and the Democratic Party is dancing to that very same tune." (Sen. Cruz, ‘The Mark Levin Show', 1/27/21)

On President Biden's job-killing executive orders, Sen. Cruz said:

"[President Biden] signed an order canceling the Keystone pipeline - 11,000 jobs with the stroke of a pen he made go away. Eight-thousand of those are union jobs. At the same time, he rejoined the Paris Climate Deal, which threatens to destroy thousands of high paying jobs across this country. I've asked multiple Biden nominees what they would say to the union workers who just lost their jobs because Joe Biden decided they didn't deserve a job. And essentially nominee, after nominee, after nominee has said, ‘Well, tough luck.' You know, John Kerry and that same news conference you put up, he said, ‘Well, they need to learn to make better choices.' What an arrogant, out-of-touch statement for a centimillionaire to say you know, ‘You little people, you know, I don't like the choices you're making, and so your jobs go away,' as John Kerry said right there. [...] The Democratic elites have decided that blue-collar workers, that union members, that men and women with calluses on their hands, they've made the wrong choices, in John Kerry's words." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Fox News Primetime', 1/27/21)

A rush to embrace the worst elements of the Chinese Communist Party has been a hallmark of the second week of the Biden administration. Earlier this week, Sen. Cruz questioned Commerce Secretary nominee Governor Gina Raimondo, who refused to commit to keeping Huawei on the Entities List that bars it from acquiring American technology. On Wednesday, Sen. Cruz questioned U.N. Ambassador nominee Linda Thomas-Greenfield over her past comments praising the Chinese Communist Party and downplaying the risk that China poses to the security and safety of the American people.

Sen. Cruz has been leading the charge in the Senate to fundamentally reassess the U.S.-China relationship and counter Chinese censorship in the wake of the CCP coronavirus coverup.

Additionally, since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Sen. Cruz has:

  • Led efforts to end U.S. dependence on China for rare earth elements and other critical minerals by introducing the Onshoring Rare Earths or ORE Act, legislation that would establish a supply chain in the U.S. for minerals used to manufacture defense technologies and other high-tech products.
  • Introduced the Blocking Evasive Attempts to Manipulate Signals or BEAMS Act, legislation to prevent the CCP from exploiting Federal Communications Commission (FCC) loopholes to propagandize to Americans from radio stations in Mexico or Canada, including through stations entangled with Chinese state-owned media outlets such as Phoenix TV. This legislation resulted in the Trump administration blocking the license to these stations.
  • Introduced the Stopping Censorship, Restoring Integrity, Protecting Talkies or SCRIPT Act, legislation cutting off Hollywood studios from assistance they receive from the Department of Defense if those studios censor their films for screening in China.
  • Introduced the Sanctioning and Highlighting Authoritarian Medicine and Eugenics or SHAME Act, legislation sanctioning CCP officials for systematic ethnic cleansing, including through forced abortions and other coercive population control measures in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

Sen. Cruz's leadership against the CCP's human rights atrocities and political oppression led to his being repeatedly sanctioned, something he calls "a badge of honor."
