Sen. Cruz: As We Honor Those Lost, We Also Reaffirm Our Commitment to Defend America From Radical Islamic Terrorism

Issues statement in observance of the seventeenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks

HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement in observance of the seventeenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:

“America’s resolve was greatly tested on a dark morning 17 years ago. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken by the evil of terrorism.

“Today, we honor their memory. We remember the men and women in the World Trade Center, and those first responders – firefighters, law enforcement officials, and Good Samaritans – who rushed to their aid. We remember the military and civilian personnel in the Pentagon whose important work continues to keep our country safe. And we remember the innocent passengers and crewmembers on those four flights, some of whom heroically sacrificed themselves to minimize the casualties on the ground.

“As we honor those lost, and those who rushed into harm’s way to save others, we also reaffirm our commitment to defend America from radical Islamic terrorism.

“After 17 years of conflict in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere around the globe, we pause to express our deep gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our military and the intelligence community who work tirelessly to prevent additional attacks from occurring on our soil.

“As our freedoms and very way of life came under attack, American courage and strength prevailed. May we never forget those lost, and the service of our brave men and women in uniform who continue to fight day and night to keep our nation free and secure.”
