Sen. Cruz Applauds Senate Passage of the Bipartisan Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act

‘This bill ensures those who promote and enable this grotesque injustice will be held liable and brought to justice’

March 21, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement applauding the Senate’s passage of the bipartisan Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act. This bill seeks justice for victims of sex trafficking and ensure that websites such as Backpage.com – based in Dallas, Texas – that knowingly facilitate sex trafficking, can be held liable and brought to justice. Sen. Cruz is an original cosponsor of the legislation, which was introduced in August of last year.

“I am proud to see my colleagues in the Senate come together to pass this bill,” Sen. Cruz said. “I am also hopeful that this bill will save lives and prevent further exploitation. Human trafficking is a heinous industry, affecting every zip code and community across the country. Too many websites like Backpage.com knowingly facilitate sex trafficking of men, women, and children. This bill ensures those who promote and enable this grotesque injustice will be held liable and brought to justice.”

In addition to cosponsoring the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act, Sen. Cruz joined Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D- Conn.) in introducing the bipartisan Visa Transparency Anti-Trafficking Act, which seeks to prevent human trafficking by bringing more openness to the foreign temporary worker visa process.
