August 26, 2016

Greetings,

This week, I had the opportunity to participate in several events across the Lone Star State – in Houston, Dallas and Corpus Christi – to meet with hardworking Texans who represent the backbone of our state’s strength, security, and productivity.  From the dedicated officials at the Port of Houston, to job creators in Dallas, to military commanders and those under their command and proud veterans in Corpus Christi, I was honored to meet with innovators and leaders in various fields and hear directly how I, along with my U.S. Senate staff, can serve them as they thrive for the benefit of our entire state and nation.

Texas is a bastion of job creation, individual liberty and a strong national defense because of the 27 million Texans that promote those values day after day and hold their elected officials accountable to doing the same. I remain especially grateful for the opportunity to represent and hear from every patriot who proudly calls Texas home.

Keep Texas Strong,

TC Sig

Sen. Cruz in Corpus Christi: We Must Take Care of Our Nation’s Veterans

Robles

On Thursday, Sen. Cruz visited met with military leaders at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi (NASCC) for a briefing on the base’s goals and long-term needs. He also toured the installation, observing the training facilities and equipment used by U.S. Navy pilots.

After his briefing and tour of NASCC, Sen. Cruz met Corpus Christi Mayor Nelda Martinez for lunch to discuss the community’s economy and opportunities for job creation.

Later in the day, Sen. Cruz held a roundtable discussion with local military veterans and veteran community leaders at the Corpus Christi Regional Transit Authority, where they discussed a vast array of issues facing veterans every day, including access to quality and timely health care.

“In Texas, we’re blessed with a strong military and veteran presence,” Sen. Cruz said. “We are a state that reveres our veterans, and Corpus Christi is a community that has a long and storied military history. Naval Air Station Corpus Christi has trained our nation’s finest pilots and provided for our defense for 75 years, and Texas’ 1.7 million veterans have risked everything to keep us safe. Unfortunately, our veterans struggle with the VA on a daily basis. The VA’s mismanagement, extended wait times, and bogus bookkeeping are disgraceful. I remain committed to empowering veterans to choose their own doctor and am confident that by working together we can craft bold and innovative solutions that provide veterans with the quality care that they deserve.”

Sen. Cruz Highlights Job Creation and Economic Expansion with Dallas Business Leaders

Robles

Sen. Cruz on Wednesday held a roundtable discussion with members of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) along with additional business and economic development leaders in Dallas, where he discussed Texas’ dynamic and inviting economic climate.

After his roundtable with YPO, Sen. Cruz toured Irving’s Dr Pepper Snapple Group sales, manufacturing, and distribution facility and met with company executives.

“My number one priority in the Senate from day one has been jobs and economic growth. And that’s true for a very simple reason: that’s the top priority of Texas,” Sen. Cruz said. “Across the state, if we have our economy growing and thriving, if we have small businesses prospering, expanding, and hiring, that’s how we solve every other problem. Texas is home to some of the most innovative and successful companies in the world because we’ve embraced commonsense, free-market values that promote prosperity. It’s encouraging to see so many young business leaders able to expand their companies and create jobs in Dallas and throughout the entire state.

“Unfortunately, in today’s regulatory environment, businesses large and small are forced to jump through countless hoops, making it harder to succeed. I look forward to continuing discussions with Texas’ robust business community so that together we can rein in Washington’s burdensome regulations and provide more jobs and opportunities for hardworking Americans.”

Sen. Cruz: The Port of Houston Is Vital to Texas and the Nation

Robles

On Tuesday, Sen. Cruz toured the Port of Houston and participated in a roundtable discussion with Port of Houston Authority (PHA) officials, in which he discussed the port’s remarkable job creation and its powerful economic role in Texas and in the nation.

Following his tour and roundtable with the PHA, Sen. Cruz met with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers for a briefing on security measures and border patrol operations within the port.

Sen. Cruz also took an aerial tour of the Houston Ship Channel with U.S. Coast Guard officers and discussed their critical role in both port security and economic growth.

“Houston continues to be the epicenter of good paying jobs and economic prosperity, and a vibrant and thriving Port of Houston is a critical engine for that economic growth,” Sen. Cruz said. “Not only is the port a catalyst for Texas’ robust economy, it is also central to our national security and the safety of every American. I’m grateful for the hard work of each and every person at the port, and I’m proud to continue working with the Port of Houston Authority, CBP officers, and the U.S. Coast Guard to ensure this port remains a strong economic driver for our state and for the country.”
