Sens. Cruz, Cornyn on Confirmation of Drew Tipton as U.S. District Judge in Corpus Christi
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), released the following statements after the Senate confirmed Drew Tipton to fill Texas’ final federal judicial vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas in Corpus Christi:
“I’m grateful my colleagues have confirmed Judge Tipton to fill the last federal judicial vacancy. He will now serve the Southern District of Texas,” Sen. Cruz said. “Drew will be an excellent judge, and Texans will be well served for years to come by his professionalism, experience, and commitment to the rule of law.”
“Drew’s dedication to justice and his fellow Texans will make him an excellent federal judge,” Sen. Cornyn said. “With this confirmation, we’ve now filled every single federal judicial bench in the state with distinguished Texans.”
The Senators recommended this nominee to President Trump following an extensive review and interview process of the candidate pool by the Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee (FJEC). Sens. Cruz and Cornyn established the FJEC, a bipartisan panel of leading attorneys in Texas, to help identify the most qualified candidates to fill judicial vacancies. The panel reviewed applications, interviewed candidates, and made recommendations to the Senators, who interviewed individuals before making their recommendations to the President.
