Sen. Cruz on the Stimulus Bill: Democrats Handed the Pen Over to the Radical Left

Talks to Buck Sexton and Breitbart’s Ashley Oliver

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) this week appeared on Buck Sexton's ‘Hold the Line,' and spoke to Breitbart's Ashley Oliver about the Democrats' pork-filled COVID bill, the crisis at the border, and radical Biden administration nominees. Highlights of these interviews are below.

On Democrats' wasteful COVID bill, Sen. Cruz said:

"It would have been very simple for the Biden administration to pass bipartisan legislation focused on COVID relief. Last year, Congress came together and passed bipartisan legislation and relief five times, five times you saw Republicans and Democrats work together. Republicans were more than ready to roll up our sleeves and say, ‘Let's focus on vaccines, on distributing the vaccines, on supporting health care, on getting kids back to school, and providing relief for families that are hurting or helping small businesses open their doors.' All of those could have passed with massive bipartisan majorities. But the administration decided they didn't want to do any of that. Instead, it handed the pen over and handed the agenda over to the radical Left." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Hold the Line,' 3/10/21)

"Three amendments that we voted on in the all night voting session. We had no one on an amendment that I co-sponsored that said these $1,400 stimulus checks shouldn't go to prisoners or shouldn't go to violent criminals, murderers, and rapists, and child molesters currently in prison. Every single Democrat voted no. So this money is going to murderers currently in prison. Secondly, an amendment I introduced said we shouldn't be sending these $1,400 taxpayer checks to illegal aliens, the 12 million illegal aliens in the United States. Again, every single Democrat voted no." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Hold the Line,' 3/10/21)

"A third amendment that I introduced provided that we need to open the schools. And it said the money that's being sent, the billions of dollars that are being sent to schools, the schools don't get the new money unless they actually open up and teach our kids. And if they don't open up, the parents and kids get scholarships, up to $10,000 dollars a student, so that kids who haven't been educated for a year can actually be educated. Every single Democrat voted no. This is a radical, partisan agenda and we're going to see a lot more of it from the Biden administration." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Hold the Line,' 3/10/21)

On the crisis at the southern border, Sen. Cruz said:

"Joe Biden has directed DHS to stop enforcing the border. They've returned to catch and release. So if you're caught, you just get released. That's why we're seeing this surge of illegal immigration, because they know the Biden administration is not going to enforce the law. [...] One of the more stunning orders he had is to say and to propose that anyone who was deported in the last four years should be able to come back. Now, that includes murderers, that includes rapists, that includes child molesters. That includes drunk drivers who have killed people on American roads. They are so radical that even violent criminals, if they were deported by the Trump administration, apparently the Biden administration wants them back here. That doesn't make any sense, and it's not consistent with what the vast majority of Americans believe while the border crisis continues to unfold." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Hold the Line,' 3/10/21)

"The Democrats policy is open borders. The immigration plan that Joe Biden has put forward is the most radical immigration plan that has ever been proffered. [...] He's willing to tell you your kids can't go to school, but when it comes to illegal immigrants, they're releasing them - they're not testing them. We had over 100 illegal immigrants released who tested positive for COVID, and it is because of the Democrats approach to this virus, everything is political [...] It's evident to anyone looking at this that that's not science. That's ideology, that's politics."
(Sen. Cruz, Breitbart, 3/10/21)

"You are not being compassionate and you're not being humane if you're adopting policies that are resulting in little boys and little girls in the care and custody of human traffickers who are vicious, abusive, and harmful. You are hurting those children and the Democrats putting these policies in place." (Sen. Cruz, Breitbart, 3/10/21)

On President Biden's nominee to lead the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, Kristen Clarke, Sen. Cruz said:

"You look at her record and it is a radical record. And by the way, there's a pattern, not only this nominee, but Vanita Gupta, who used to be the head of civil rights under the Obama administration and was just nominated for the number three position at the Department of Justice. [...] In both instances, these individuals have had long careers, not as mainstream lawyers, not as demonstrating fidelity to law, but as radical left-wing activists. With respect to Mrs. Clarke, she is someone who has celebrated and defended a convicted cop killer, and not only that, she organized a campus rally in defense of that cop killer, where she invited a noted anti-Semite from the Nation of Islam to come speak. This is someone Joe Biden wants to be the top civil rights law enforcement attorney in the country." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Hold the Line,' 3/10/21)

On the pattern of President Biden's cabinet nominees being soft on China, Sen. Cruz said:

"This seems to be part of a pattern, a very deliberate decision to pivot back towards China and to embrace the Chinese communist government. [...] For example, Gina Raimondo, who is just confirmed as the Commerce Secretary. She was the governor of Rhode Island. The Department of Commerce maintains what's called the Entity List, which are the companies that that we prohibit the transfer of U.S. technology to because they're a national security threat. [...] So Gina Raimondo refused to commit to leaving any of them on the Entity List. She even went so far as to refuse to commit to leaving Huawei on the list. Huawei, as you know, is the giant telecom company in China that is basically an espionage agency. It masquerades as a telecom company, but it exists to install equipment across the globe that the Chinese can use to monitor communications and carry out espionage. And Raimondo refused to commit to leaving Huawei on the list." (Sen. Cruz, Breitbart, 3/10/21)

"Linda Thomas Greenfield, who is Joe Biden's ambassador to the United Nations, she gave a paid speech at a Confucius Institute. Now, what does the Confucius Institute? Confucius Institutes are owned, controlled, [and] paid for by the Chinese communist government. They have set them up in U.S. colleges and universities all over the country, and they set them up ostensibly to study Chinese language and Chinese culture. But their real purpose is propaganda and espionage. [...] Well, Ms. Thomas Greenfield, in October of 2019, so not a long time ago, just a little over a year ago, gave a paid speech at a Confucius Institute at a U.S. college. And not only that, if you look at the text of the speech, the speech was an ode to China, was praising China. [...] Linda Thomas Greenfield said America should be more like China and our policies should follow their example." (Sen. Cruz, Breitbart, 3/10/21)

On President Biden's nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra, Sen. Cruz said:

"Xavier Becerra, the Attorney General of California, has been nominated to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Now, we're in the middle of a global pandemic - Joe Biden likes to tell us that daily. He's nominated as the head of HHS someone who is not a medical doctor, someone who has no health care experience whatsoever, someone who has no scientific background whatsoever, someone who has no experience with pharmaceuticals, no experiences with virology, no experiences with logistics. [...] Why did Biden nominate him? Because Becerra's a leftist partisan radical. [...] And that is why I say the first six weeks they've been boring but radical." (Sen. Cruz, Breitbart, 3/10/21)
