Sen. Cruz on Blocking Federal Vaccine Passports: 'Your Health Decisions are Yours to Make'

Joins 'Fox & Friends' and the 'The Glenn Beck Program' to talk about his No Vaccine Passports Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) this week went on Fox News' ‘Fox & Friends' and ‘The Glenn Beck Program' to discuss his legislation to ban federal vaccine passport mandates, the January 6 Senate commission, and investigating the origins of the COVID-19 virus in Wuhan, China. Highlights of his interviews are below.

On his new bill banning federal vaccine passports, Sen. Cruz said:

"I think vaccines are terrific. I've had the vaccine myself. I think it's given us a lot of freedom. But I think there's a real potential for government overreach, and I don't believe anyone should be forced to take the vaccine. It should be your personal choice. You should make the choice based on your health, based on the decisions you want. And so I've introduced this week legislation that would, one, prohibit any federal vaccine passport, prohibit the Biden administration from doing anything to mandate vaccines, but it also prohibits discrimination in employment. We're seeing some places where employers are saying, if you're not vaccinated, you're fired, and that ought to be illegal. Your health decisions are yours to make. And it and it shouldn't be your boss. It shouldn't be the government. It shouldn't be anyone else forcing you to make those decisions." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Fox & Friends,' 5/28/21)

"Part of the legislation I've introduced prohibits discrimination based on vaccine status and so what it does is it adds to the existing civil rights laws. So the Americans with Disabilities Act, for example, requires that that you make a reasonable accommodation for an employee that that has a disability. [...] but the point is we have an existing legal structure that protects your civil rights and with respect to disabilities, requires reasonable accommodations. And what my legislation does is it puts your choice of whether or not to get a vaccine with the same protection." (Sen. Cruz, ‘The Glenn Beck Program,' 5/28/21)

On whether Democrats will support his legislation, Sen. Cruz said:

"Will Democrats be willing to support it? The Biden administration has at least said publicly that they do not support a federally mandated vaccine passport. Now, I think you and I have reason to be skeptical of that claim. And so it will be interesting to see. So I have not yet and I will in the coming weeks, be reaching out to Democrats and seeing if any Democrats are willing to come together and support it, if no Democrat supports it, then no, it will not pass in a Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi Congress. If Democrats are willing to support it and they should, then it has a chance of passage. We'll have to see what they're willing to do." (Sen. Cruz, ‘The Glenn Beck Program,' 5/28/21)

On his call to investigate the origins of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China, Sen. Cruz said:

"Senate Democrats have been very reluctant to hold China to account for its role in the spread of COVID-19. We know the Chinese government was directly culpable for the cover-up for silencing the initial outbreak. You look at the heroic Chinese whistleblowers, doctors, journalists who at the very beginning of this pandemic spoke out and the Chinese government arrested them. They disappeared them. They silenced them. And that played a major role in the spread of this pandemic. Globally, we now are seeing more and more people acknowledging what I have been saying for over a year, that the preponderance of the evidence suggests that this virus escaped likely accidentally from a Chinese government lab in Wuhan. [...] I think the most natural conclusion, which the Chinese government does not want anyone to know the facts of, is that the virus escaped accidentally from that Chinese government lab. And at least so far, the Biden administration has been unwilling to dig in and force a real and objective investigation into the facts." (Sen. Cruz, ‘Fox & Friends,' 5/28/21)
