Sen. Cruz Joins Bipartisan Effort to Combat Sexual Harassment and Hold Abusers in Congress Accountable

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement praising the bipartisan deal to combat sexual harassment in Congress, of which he is a cosponsor.

“Sexual harassment is wrong. It should never be tolerated. Over the past year — as we've seen scores of victims come forward to share their stories — it has become more apparent than ever that workplace misconduct and abuse is far too common in Hollywood, the media, corporate America, and in the halls of Congress,” said Sen. Cruz. “Perpetrators must be held accountable, and no one is above the law. For months, Sen. Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) and I have been fighting for reform. This bipartisan deal empowers victims to report sexual harassment and helps bring their perpetrators to justice. It will strengthen procedures available to victims of workplace sexual harassment, and — critically — puts an end to the shameful practice of taxpayer-funded secret settlements by Members of Congress. I am proud to support this bipartisan effort, and to continue working with my colleagues to stop the cycle of sexual harassment and secret settlements.”

In April, Sen. Cruz joined a letter calling on Senate leaders to reform the Senate’s sexual harassment rules.
