Democrats Continue Crusade Against High Court

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Democrats continued their crusade this weekend against the Supreme Court, relying on a now-discredited New York Times article to slander Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's character and invent a reason for his impeachment. This latest attempt to undermine the our judicial system follows an amicus brief filed by Senate Democrats last month that threatened the Supreme Court with restructuring if it does not reach a left-wing outcome in a key gun rights case, as well as Democratic presidential candidates vowing to pack the Court to advance their progressive agenda.

As the Wall Street Journal editorial board wrote:

"This assault on [Justice Kavanaugh] is part of the left's larger campaign against the legitimacy of the current Supreme Court and an independent judiciary." ...

"This assault on the judiciary is being carried out with conviction and malice, as the character assassination against Justice Kavanaugh shows. One motivation is that everything on the left's new agenda, from the Green New Deal to a wealth tax, depends on favorable court rulings. The left is used to running the nation's law schools and controlling the courts.

"But the Senate has confirmed more than 150 judicial nominees since President Trump took office. And progressives would now rather attempt a hostile takeover of Article III courts than wait to win the old-fashioned way: at the ballot box."

In response to Democrats most recent attack on the Supreme Court, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), chairman of the Senate Judiciary's Subcommittee on The Constitution, said on ABC's ‘This Week,'

"I think [the latest incident] just shows the obsession with the far left with trying to smear Justice Kavanaugh by going 30 years back with anonymous sources. It really is another sign of how nasty and divided this time is today. I bet you the next Democratic debate, they'll all be saying impeach Kavanaugh, impeach Trump. There's nobody they don't want to impeach. And at some point [Democrats] just have to let the anger go and recognize that the Democratic process actually moves on and I think it's time for them to do that."

In August, Sen. Cruz joined Senate Republicans in sending a letter urging the Supreme Court not to be cowed by Democrats' threats and blackmailing. As Democrats continue to efforts to undermine, influence, and even obstruct the High Court, Sen. Cruz will continue working to confirm conservative justices who will protect the God-given liberties and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution for Texans and all Americans.
