Sens. Cruz, Cornyn on Nomination of Charles Eskridge as U.S. District Judge in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) today released the following statements after President Trump nominated Charles Eskridge to fill a judicial vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas in Houston:

"I am grateful Charles Eskridge has been nominated to the federal bench," Sen. Cruz said. "Charles' expertise and commitment to the rule of law will serve Texans well. I look forward to his speedy confirmation in the Senate."

"Charles' commitment to the rule of law and distinguished career as a top-notch litigator make him exceptionally qualified for the federal bench in Houston," said Sen. Cornyn. "I look forward to working with Sen. Cruz and the rest of my colleagues to swiftly confirm him."

The senators recommended this nominee to President Trump following an extensive review and interview process of the candidate pool by the bipartisan Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee (FJEC). Sens. Cruz and Cornyn established the FJEC, a bipartisan panel of leading attorneys in Texas, to help identify the most qualified candidates to fill judicial vacancies. The panel reviewed applications, interviewed candidates, and made recommendations to the senators, who interviewed individuals before making their recommendations to the president.
