Sen. Cruz: ‘Reverend King Devoted His Life to Preaching a Gospel of Hope and Love for All Mankind’

Honoring the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Day

HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement honoring the life and legacy of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. in observance of Martin Luther King Day:

“This Martin Luther King Day, may we unite as a nation to reflect on the legacy Reverend King forged in the most turbulent of times. In the face of racial inequality and injustice, Rev. King devoted his life to preaching a gospel of hope and love, freedom and equality for all mankind. In leading ‘the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation,’ Rev. King’s vision of equality was rooted in our individual liberties protected under the U.S. Constitution:

‘When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’”
