ICYMI: Sen. Cruz: The Texas Gulf Coast is Determined to Rebuild Even Stronger

“No official, state or federal, has been more involved in the recovery of Galveston County than Senator Ted Cruz,” said County Judge Mark Henry

DICKINSON, Texas – On Saturday, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) participated in a roundtable discussion with Galveston County community leaders and officials, including County Judge Mark Henry who hosted the event. There, he discussed his priorities for Hurricane Harvey recovery, including his tax relief legislation benefiting storm victims.

“Saturday morning Sen. Ted Cruz visited the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management to not only talk about the federal government's accomplishments in the wake of Hurricane Harvey but to find out what they can improve upon. ‘No official, state or federal, has been more involved in the recovery of Galveston County than Senator Ted Cruz,’ said County Judge Mark Henry. Cruz addressed reporters before meeting with county officials, championing the two federal disaster relief bills worth roughly a combined 51 billion dollars and the Harvey relief tax bill, which benefits homeowners and local businesses. […] ‘We need to make sure Texas gets our fair share,’ Cruz said. ‘Given the magnitude of the damage here in Texas, we need to make sure those resources are directed to where there was real and serious hurricane damage.’”

“U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz on Saturday praised local leaders for Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts and said he hopes to pass a third disaster relief bill before the money gets entangled in Washington policy battles. ‘My hope is that disaster relief is not caught up in the mess and we can pass it with bipartisan support,’ Cruz said. Harvey in late August caused massive flooding throughout the county. Cruz spoke in Dickinson during a visit to Galveston County to receive an update about hurricane recovery efforts.”

“Help after Harvey. Senator Ted Cruz is reminding Harvey victims of all the help and resources still available. He was in Dickinson this morning meeting with County Judge Mark Henry, and the mayors of Dickinson and League City. One of the key pieces of help is tax [relief]. ‘You can deduct your property casualty losses,’ Sen. Cruz said. ‘If you paid for them out of your pocket, you can deduct them from your taxes. That’s a benefit that’s available to every resident in Galveston County who was impacted by this storm and every resident all along the Gulf Coast.’ Senator Cruz says there is a third round of relief funding currently making its way through Congress.”
