Sen. Cruz Leads Congressional Amicus Brief Supporting Barronelle Stutzman

Urges the U.S. Supreme Court to label the state of Washington’s actions against Barronelle as unconstitutional

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today commented on a congressional amicus brief in the case of Arlene’s Flowers v. State of Washington, filed with the United States Supreme Court, defending Barronelle Stutzman’s religious liberty.

The full text of the amicus brief may be viewed here.

"The First Amendment protects all religious beliefs, not merely the ones deemed fashionable by today’s P.C. police,” Sen. Ted Cruz said. “Barronelle Stutzman is a kind, gentle woman with a proven record of employing and serving the LGBT community. Her sole crime was not wishing to participate in a ceremony that violates her Christian faith. By going after Mrs. Stutzman, the state of Washington showed its hand. It is less concerned with stopping actual discrimination and more concerned with punishing anyone who doesn't comply with their progressive orthodoxy. I, along with my colleagues, will not stay silent as anti-religion forces undermine our First Amendment rights. We urge the U.S. Supreme Court to label the state of Washington’s actions for exactly what it is: Unconstitutional.”
