Sen. Cruz Issues Statement on Sentencing of Larry Nassar

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement regarding the sentencing of former USA Gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar. More than 160 women accused Nassar of sexual abuse, many of whom were abused at the Karolyi Ranch in Huntsville, Texas. Today, he was found guilty, and sentenced 40 to 175 years in prison.

"The testimonies of these brave women in the face of unspeakable abuse have inspired our entire country, and the rest of the world," Sen. Cruz said. "Their stories, although heartbreaking, serve as a testament to their strength and resilience. Their bravery will be remembered for years to come and help inspire those who may have faced similar circumstances to come forward and tell their stories. Survivors of sexual abuse must be empowered to report their abusers, and those who abuse their power, like Larry Nassar, must be held accountable. Texans shudder to know that many of these unspeakable crimes occurred in our own state, and I know I speak for all Texans in saying that the Lone Star State stands with each of these young women and applauds them for the courage they have displayed to the world. Today's sentencing is appropriate and will ensure he is no longer able to take advantage of innocent young women."
