Sen. Cruz Applauds Renewed U.S.-Israel Security Partnership

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement in light of the newly signed 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the United States and Israel:

“All supporters of the US-Israeli alliance should be pleased that a new 10-year MOU has been signed that will form the foundation of our ongoing security partnership from FY 2019-2028. It is particularly significant that this agreement was negotiated with a Democrat administration, thus demonstrating that our alliance is not a partisan matter, but one of national security.

“No one who negotiated this agreement on either side, however, has a crystal ball and the one thing that we can predict with confidence is that the coming years will be filled with unexpected events that will have unanticipated consequences—especially in the shifting, dangerous neighborhood that is the 21st-century Middle East. The MOU cannot and should not supersede Congress’ ability to appropriate additional funds as circumstances merit in the future, nor should it prevent the Government of Israel from making Congress aware of developing needs.

“The United States has no better friend than Israel, and Israel has no better friend than the United States. Today we reaffirm that friendship, and consider ourselves fortunate that we will continue to face the challenges to both our nations, first and foremost radical Islamic terrorism, together.”
