Dallas Morning News: Senate confirms Cornyn and Cruz pick for appeals court
The Senate confirmed Judge Gregg Costa to a federal appeals court spot Tuesday, filling a longstanding vacancy on the bench that hears cases from Texas and surrounding states.
Costa sailed through on a voice vote.
Both Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz recommended Costa’s to President Barack Obama. But even with the bipartisan support, it still took Costa about five months to be confirmed. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals slot had been empty for 837 days.
A Maryland native, Costa graduated from University of Texas School of Law and edited the Texas Law Review. He has spent most of his professional life in the Houston area.
