Greetings,
Last weekend we were horrified to see a despicable attack on our fellow Americans in Las Vegas. Heidi and I are continuing to lift up in prayer the families and friends grieving the loss of a loved one, the injured and the first responders who rushed to the scene.
This week in Washington, I spoke with the Corpus Christi United Chamber of Commerce about the hurricane recovery tax relief bill that I sponsored and that was signed into law by President Trump. Senator John Cornyn and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida joined me as cosponsors of this bill, which provides major, immediate tax relief for hurricane victims in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Cruz-Cornyn-Rubio bill provides additional tax deductions and waives penalties for withdrawals from tax-advantaged accounts for those in storm affected areas, allowing storm victims to keep more of their money as they work to rebuild. The bill also includes tax credits for small businesses that kept paying their employees, even if those employees were unable to come to work or the business was shut down, during the storms. Additionally, by lifting the usual limits on charitable giving, this bill allows more people nationwide to help Texans impacted by Harvey. I am gratified members of Congress were able to work together, and provide further relief to the millions of Texans hurting badly because of these disastrous storms.
On the radio this week, I spoke with KTRH’s Michael Berry in Houston, KTSA’s Trey Ware in San Antonio, and Salem Radio’s Mark Davis in Dallas to discuss my efforts to cut taxes and continue the Senate’s push to repeal and replace Obamacare.
