September 16, 2017

Greetings,

This week I announced seven priorities that I believe should drive the debate in Congress to reform our tax code and cut taxes for hardworking Americans. Now is our moment to remake our tax system from the ground up, employing conservative principles to create a new tax code that is simpler, flatter, and fairer. Ultimately, the best place for a taxpayer's hard-earned income is with that taxpayer, not the federal government.  I hope you’ll take a a few minutes to watch our event with the Tax Foundation where I discuss the importance of simplifying our tax code so Americans can file their taxes on a postcard, implementing full expensing to reduce the tax burden on small business, and utilizing tax reform as a means to repeal Dodd-Frank. I look forward to working with members of Congress and the administration to bring real, long-term tax relief to Americans that will spark economic growth and create greater opportunity all across our nation.

This week, I also visited Rockport and Port Arthur, where I spoke with Texans impacted by Hurricane Harvey and surveyed storm damage. I also visited Kingwood, Dickinson, and League City last Saturday, where I met volunteers and assisted them in distributing supplies. Texas was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey, but Texans are coming together and standing united in our recovery efforts. My Senate office, led by our Hurricane Harvey recovery working group, continues to work to ensure swift and effective service to Texans and Texas communities in need of federal assistance following the storm. If you need additional information or assistance during the recovery and rebuilding process, please do not hesitate to contact my office or utilize the federal and state resources listed here.

Please read below for an update from this last week.
