Sen. Cruz: Though There Is a Dark Shadow of Loss and Suffering, Today Sutherland Springs Will Raise up a New House That Will Proudly Proclaim the Light of the Gospel

HOUSTON, Texas - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement in honor of the dedication ceremony of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs' new sanctuary.

"The First Baptist congregation and the entire Sutherland Springs community continues to inspire Texas and the entire nation with their strength, unity, and forgiveness. In the face of unspeakable evil, this community has shined the light of Jesus's redeeming love. In the wake of horrific tragedy, the world witnessed a powerful example of what the church ought look like everywhere. One year ago at the groundbreaking ceremony, we saw joy in the midst of sorrow.

"Today, we once again honor the memory of the 26 innocent souls - the men, women, and precious children we lost on that dark day. Though there is a dark shadow of loss and suffering, today you raise up a new house that will proudly proclaim the light of the Gospel.

"As we are reminded in John, ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.'

"May the message of the Gospel and the Lord's teachings be shared in this new church for generations to come. And may God bless the men and women of Sutherland Springs."
