Sen. Cruz Applauds Department of Education’s Federal Assistance for Displaced Texas Students Following Hurricane Harvey

‘I am grateful for the leadership of Secretary DeVos and the Department of Education in providing federal support to our students and schools in their time of need’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement applauding the Department of Education’s announcement allotting $174.2 million in federal funds to Texas to cover the costs of educating students who were displaced as a result of Hurricane Harvey. The Temporary Emergency Impact Aid for Displaced Students program provides $359.8 million in federal funds to 20 states, assisting the victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and the 2017 California wildfires.

“I am grateful for the leadership of Secretary DeVos and the Department of Education in providing federal support to our students and schools in their time of need,” Sen. Cruz said. “Hurricane Harvey disrupted the lives of thousands of students. In response, we saw our communities unite to help displaced students continue their academic studies, with many schools opening their doors to Harvey survivors from outside their district. The funds provided through this Emergency Impact Aid program will support the Texas schools who stepped up to the plate for our children in the aftermath of Harvey.”
