Sen. Cruz Participates in Military Times Ceremony Honoring Texas Native, Petty Officer Omar Alba of the United States Coast Guard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) participated in the Military Times Service Members of the Year Awards Ceremony to honor outstanding service members from each branch of the military. There, he escorted El Paso, Texas native Petty Officer 2nd Class Omar Alba of the United States Coast Guard.

Photos and B-roll of the ceremony may be viewed here.

“It is my honor to participate in this ceremony to recognize the exceptional contributions of our servicemen and women,” Sen. Cruz said. “Petty Officer Alba has demonstrated tremendous bravery in his service to our nation, going above and beyond the call to assist his fellow Americans in times of trouble. When the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in 2010, he was among the first rescue swimmers to reach the burning rig, where he helped survivors escape the burning debris. More recently in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria’s devastation, he volunteered his time and resources, spending more than 40 days delivering food, water, and medical supplies across Puerto Rico. Petty Officer Alba represents the very best of Texas and our Coast Guard.”
