WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement regarding the Korean summit:

“The summit between Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un is an encouraging sign, but the United States and our allies must remain vigilant and continue the maximum pressure campaign. We should continue to press to ensure the complete denuclearization of North Korea and recognize that Kim’s past history of deception should cause any reasonable observer to treat his assurances with the deepest skepticism. Kim should not be allowed to use negotiations over the denuclearization of North Korea to weaken our alliances with South Korea and Japan, which could risk destabilizing not just the Korean Peninsula, but the entire Pacific Rim.”
