HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today recognized the beginning of Passover. This Passover will be the first since Hurricane Harvey for Texas Jewish communities in Houston and along the Gulf Coast. In some of those areas, communal seders will be taking place at sundown to ensure those who may not yet be in a position to host their own seders have a place to observe Passover together.

"Heidi and I wish a Chag Sameach to our Jewish friends, especially in Texas, who will attend seders and read from the Haggadah to commemorate the story of the Israelites’ exodus from slavery in ancient Egypt to freedom," Sen. Cruz said. "Our hearts especially go out to those in the Texas Jewish community who are still rebuilding their homes, neighborhoods, synagogues, and community centers following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. All of you have shown tremendous resilience overcoming this adversity and continue to come together in support of one another. We will continue to stand with you as we work together to rebuild stronger and better than before."
