Sen. Cruz: USAA Champions Our Brave Servicemen and Women

Visits with USAA employees and tours San Antonio headquarters

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today visited and toured USAA headquarters in San Antonio, where he had lunch and took questions from about 300 USAA employees. His visit is part of a week-long tour across Texas where he is meeting with various veterans groups to hear their ideas and concerns.

"I was honored to visit with our friends at USAA," Sen. Cruz said. "For 95 years, USAA has been proudly serving military members and their families from Texas and across this nation, helping to provide them financial security and achieve financial independence. That's a record to be proud of - one that recognizes the debt we owe to the men and women who have so bravely defended this nation. We must deliver on the promise our nation has made to them, and ensure they are able to access the best this nation has to offer, whether that is good-paying jobs, expanded economic opportunity, or quality health care and treatment. Throughout my time in the Senate I have fought for legislation to advance these commitments and ensure that our federal government is held accountable to keep these promises."

Last week, Sen. Cruz introduced the VA Information Technology Restructuring Act to modernize the Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) IT infrastructure in a manner that will better equip it to ensure our veterans receive the utmost quality health care. The bill establishes that a Chief Information Officer (CIO) be appointed to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to modernize outdated software, and provide necessary oversight regarding the procurement, acquisition and management of the VHA's IT systems. Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), and Todd Young (R-Ind.) are original cosponsors of the bill.

Founded in 1922, USAA employs approximately 18,000 Texans in its San Antonio headquarters. The USAA family of companies provides insurance, banking, investments, retirement products and advice to 12 million current and former members of the U.S. military and their families.
