Sen. Cruz Announces New Staff Roles

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today announced new staff roles in his Senate D.C. office, effective immediately. He has named Steve Chartan legislative director and promoted Alec Aramanda to deputy legislative director. Following is brief background:
Steve Chartan, Legislative Director: Chartan most recently served as executive director of the House Freedom Caucus (HFC). Under the chairmanship of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), he led the organization as its top strategist. Previously, Chartan served as policy advisor for the Senate Steering Committee under Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and prior to that Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.). His policy portfolio included judiciary, finance, banking, budget, foreign relations, and defense. Before joining the Steering Committee, he was a legislative staffer for Sen. Toomey. Chartan is a graduate of Duke University.
Alec Aramanda, Deputy Legislative Director: Prior to joining Sen. Cruz’s office as a legislative assistant in January 2013, Aramanda served as legislative assistant in the office of then-Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) from 2010-2012. There he handled health, tax, welfare and Social Security issues. Before working in the Senate, Aramanda spent three years at The Heritage Foundation as strategic operations coordinator, among other roles. Aramanda received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Haverford College.
