Washington Examiner: Ted Cruz mocks media's fawning over Iran's 'moderate' president

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz never expected Washington's press corps to give him a free pass, but the hero of the Tea Party movement just revealed how amazed he has been at the speed in which seasoned reporters are crawling over themselves to embrace Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

“The press has described Rouhani as a moderate, I guess because he uses Twitter, so he can't be all bad,” Cruz joked to a national security conference during which he flipped through several threatening comments from Iran's leadership.

Some in the media have portrayed Rouhani as more Western in style and reason. Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey, at the same event, has often compared the media’s handling of Rouhani to their portrayal in the 1980s of former Soviet strongman Yuri Andropov because he liked jazz and scotch.
