Houston Chronicle: Cruz: conservatives winning on Obamacare, immigration and gun control
Cruz took questions from reporters after a speech to conservative activists at the RedState Gathering, where he was accorded rock star status. Erick Erickson, editor-in-chief of the RedState blog that hosts the event, said, "It's like all the Beatles in one person."
The tea party favorite who has been a thorn in the side of establishment Republicans, as well as Democrats in Washington, closed a day that was kicked off by Gov. Rick Perry, another potential 2016 contender.
The reception for Cruz was more enthusiastic, and Erickson asked the crowd to pray with him for Cruz at the end, saying at one point, "We pray, Father, that he can be a beacon in this country."
Cruz talked to the activists about policy issues where he said conservatives have been victorious, such as fighting gun control, and where he maintained they are near victory, which he said is the case on Obamacare and immigration.
