Houston Chronicle: Texans (even Democrats) question Obama no-show at border
Barack Obama’s decision to skip a border visit reverberated through Texas politics Wednesday, with Republicans in Congress – and a few Democrats – calling it a missed opportunity, or worse.
“Apparently there’s no time to look at the disaster and devastation that’s been caused by his policies,” Sen. Ted. Cruz, R-Texas, said Wednesday on the Senate floor.
Cruz was joined by fellow Texan John Cornyn for a “colloquy” of Republican senators taking over the Senate chamber to criticize the administration’s immigration policies, which they blame for the influx of unaccompanied minors flooding the Rio Grande Valley.
Cornyn called Obama’s Texas fundraising visit “tone deaf” in the midst of a humanitarian crisis on the border.
