Biden's Executive Actions Put the Power in the Pen, Not the People

As we close the second week of the Biden administration, a concerning pattern has developed - President Biden has abandoned his stated desire for unity and is instead depending on the power of the pen to pursue his radical Left-wing agenda.

Just hours after he was sworn in, President Biden quickly set the tone for his administration by issuing 17 executive orders on his first day. In total, President Biden has issued a record 25 executive orders since taking office and added at least 15 other executive actions, bringing his total to at least 40 executive actions since his inauguration.

Just two weeks into his presidency, President Biden has already signed more executive orders than fifteen presidents signed in their entire tenures in office.

With the stroke of his pen, President Biden has:

  • Eliminated thousands of jobs by blocking the Keystone XL pipeline.
  • Imperiled hundreds of thousands of energy jobs and America's energy security by rejoining the Paris Climate Accords, banning oil and gas leases, and banning drilling permits.
  • Allowed U.S. funding to flow to groups that provide or promote abortion around the globe by reversing the Mexico City policy.
  • Put illegal immigrants before American workers by halting construction of a wall on America's southern border and continuing Barack Obama's illegal executive amnesty by preserving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
  • Rejoined the World Health Organization that has consistently done the bidding of the Chinese Communist Party, including to cover-up the global threat posed by COVID-19.
  • Delayed the implementation of a ban on investments in companies tied to the Chinese military.

Even the notoriously liberal New York Times editorial board has urged President Biden to "ease up on the executive orders."

Bottom Line: Bypassing the role of Congress to govern by executive fiat isn't the "return to normalcy" that Biden's cheerleaders in the media have been proclaiming the early days of his administration to be - it's a disturbing precedent. President Biden should let the people decide how America will move forward through their elected representatives in Congress before he rushes to pick up his pen to act unilaterally. Sen. Cruz remains dedicated to restoring the power to the American people by carrying out his role as a check on President Biden's executive power and serving as their voice in the U.S. Senate.
