Cruz News: September 22, 2018

September 22, 2018

Greetings,

On Thursday, during a tour of NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston with Presidential Advisor Ivanka Trump and NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, I had the opportunity to talk with the crew members of Expedition 56, who are stationed on the International Space Station (ISS). Texas has always been a leader in space exploration, and I am grateful for the good work of the men and women at JSC.

I am pleased that this week the Army chose Fort Bliss as the home for the New Armored Brigade Combat Team. Earlier this year, Sen. John Cornyn and I sent a letter to Secretary of the Army Mark Esper requesting this conversion, and that is be located in Texas. This announcement, along with the Army Futures Command in Austin, reinforces Texas’ position as a pillar in America’s national security and defense. I look forward to working with the Army to ensure this new Armored Brigade and the entire 1st Armored Division are ready to deter adversaries, promote peace, and project American strength.

The entire State of Texas continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with our fellow Americans in North and South Carolina as the floodwaters of Hurricane Florence begin to recede. Many of our brave Texas law enforcement and first responders are answering the call to help with the recovery and relief efforts. As the Lone Star State continues to rebuild from the unprecedented devastation from Hurricane Harvey and the south Texas flooding, we must also take all steps necessary to prepare our homes and families for any future weather event. For those seeking preparedness information and resources, please refer to the federal and state resources listed here.

Please read below for an update from this last week.

Keep Texas Strong,
